« Fall Kick-Off » at ABQLA

On Thursday, October 5, librarians met for an evening of excellent food, good friends and great conversation in the warmth of Old Montreal.

After a delicious dinner, Shelley Pomerance, former CBC radio interviewer and journalist, shared her literary encounters over the years.  Some of the authors she had interviewed included Mordecai Richler, Simon Winchester, Margaret Atwood, Mavis Gallant, Yann Martel, and Miriam Toews (to name just a few).  Her presentation was entitled “Red Socks, Whiskey and a Green Frock” which represented very intimate and inspiring moments with authors that she will never forget. Of course, there were also moments (dare we say “gossip”) which caused a lot of hilarity.  It seems that some authors are quite prickly, and possess very fragile egos.

The evening was a “hit”.  It started off the new ABQLA season with the right mix of camaraderie and fun, and also provided a new appreciation for some of our favorite authors.
